Minutes
THE MISSION OF THE UNITED CHURCH OF WARNER IS TO DEMONSTRATE AND SHARE THE LOVE OF GOD REVEALED THROUGH JESUS CHRIST. OUR VISION, IN LIGHT OF OUR MISSION, IS OUR SENSE OF GOD’S CALLING US TO DEVELOP LAY MINISTERS AND MINISTRIES IN A FRAMEWORK OF MUTUAL ACCOUNTABILITY.
Meeting opened at 3:10 with prayer led by Nancy Eastman
Present: Lon(by speakerphone from China), Paul Sharrio, Martha Thoits, Kitty Fifield, Joyce Foley, Robin Belkner, Nancy Eastman
Approved minutes from August 3rd.
Kearsarge Area Chamber of Commerce: Martha reported that there is the possibility of a summer theater for children being organized for 2011. On September 11th the library will be hosting the movie “Fresh” to kick off a week of supporting locally grown food and nutritional eating. Sept. 11th is a church supper. It was suggested that the library show the movie at the church, thus connecting the 2 community events. The Council agreed, if a screen can be found and if the library were to organize/run the movie; Martha to follow up on this. The Warner Retailers are planning their Town-wide Christmas Shopping Tour on December 11th and have asked if the church will be hosting a luncheon on this date. The Council agreed to a quiche and salad lunch as in 2009.
J’s office: UCC’s tasks complete. Willi is in process of removing personal items. Martha will get prices on professional carpet cleaning.
Church Supper: Held on August 14th ,an outstanding success, lots of new faces, good food, good teamwork, ideal weather! Discussion about putting a line item in budget to show income from Church Suppers.
Worship Team: Possibility of clown ministry in future. Investigating possible service to be held near water, maybe a bonfire, or on Burnt Hill.
Luncheon: Pat Murray has asked if the church will host a luncheon for a group(presumably the Railroad Collectors group) in the fall, with $12.00 per person to be charged. Council agreed to go forward with this.
Retreat: Not many possible attendees seen for the 28th, date changed to Tuesday August 31st from 2 til 7, with discussion from 3 to 5.
Lower Warner Meeting House Service: August 29th, 10 am. Sherry all set.
Faith Formation Team: Anticipated start of Sunday School is September 19th. Need teachers (substitutes, back-up, co-teach). Joyce is planning a day to clean the Parish House is preparation for Sunday School. Will need to order more curriculum and supplies. Adult Education: Bible Study will resume on September 14th.(Tuesday from 6:30 to 8 pm). Will study “Christianity & World Religions”. NOTE – Council might consider the Adam Hamilton program of Stewardship – “Enough”.
Communications: It was suggested that all Ministry Teams submit a brief comment to Liz for the Monthly Messenger to let people know what is going on.
Interim process: A third resume was received, Kitty to check on references. Liz to set up interviews with 3 candidates for Sept. 7th at 3, 4 and 5 pm, with discussion and decision(and possibly pizza) to follow. It was noted that Sherry was not being considered for Interimship due to lack of qualifications.
